N*SOUL records was founded in the summer of 1993 by Scott Blackwell and was incorporated in the fall of 1997 with partner, Phillip Kim. N*SOUL Records, Inc. is the only Dance and electronic label in the Gospel/CBA (Christian Booksellers Association) market. With over 60 full length releases to date, N*SOUL has opened up the CBA market to dance music with all of its genres. In the past 6 months, N*SOUL has expanded its market share with R&B/Hip Hop Artists and it's new imprint Eclectica Music releasing the first ever SKA compilation in the CBA market and some exciting new artists.
The first group signed to N*SOUL was The World Wide Message Tribe. After recording their first two albums and unheard of success for N*SOUL, the Tribe has gone on to record for Warner Brothers, setting the stage for others to follow in the direction out of the CBA market. Other N*SOUL artists include AJ MORA, with the hit single "I Found Something Real" licensed on Aquaboogie vinyl and Richard Humpty Vission's Mix CD. Other releases include Scott Blackwell's Clubhouse Mix CD, and the Nitro Praise Series which has collectively sold over 300,000 units and has charted as high as 19 on the Billboard Charts. With an impressive team of street and label promotion, N*SOUL has been able to stand alone in the genre of dance music.
1998 also brought versatility to N*SOUL as they expand into other genres with an impressive R&B/Hip Hop album: Lakita (artists Lakita Garth, former Ms. Black America and leading spokesperson for the Abstinence movement), Deezer D (most know for his acting career from the #1 hit TV series ER) and a SKA compilation of the hottest underground SKA bands on the new imprint Eclectica Music. The success story continues with the release of Nitro Praise 7 which is currently nominated for an AFIM award and a long awaited album from SOZO (former member of the Newsboys who went on to sign with Virgin) which garnered two no #1 singles. In partnership with FrosT, Phillip Kim has launched the impressive publication Underground Fire Magazine with the focus of unifying and expanding the urban network of hip hop & dance.
Ready to take the next step in distribution, N*SOUL has signed a long term distribution contract with Navarre Corporation, the leader in Independent Distribution, for expanded distribution outside of the CBA marketplace.
