"If a group of caring people would develop a great script with a biblical message, I asked him (Martin Jurow), could such a movie be produced and distributed? I wanted to know whether, even with all the antipathy to religion (in Hollywood) cited by Michael Medved, it was still possible to make and distribute quality movies with a message. His reply sort of stunned me. Almost with vehemence he said, "Of course they could! It isn't that it can't be done, it's that nobody tries." We have not because we ask not."

Young Christian filmmakers launch new movement in Hollywood

In response to Hollywood's growing moral and social indifference, a group of young Christian filmmakers are setting out to transform the consciousness of Hollywood with films that have a positive impact on society and share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

As evidenced by the success of The Omega Code, Christian audiences are demanding more entertainment addressing their needs. Consistently ignored by Hollywood and faced with limited choices, Christians are eagerly stepping into the forefront of filmmaking. Leading the way is the Southern California-based production company, Signal Hill Pictures.

The filmmakers of Signal Hill Pictures, David White, Kevin Downes, Jon Gunn, Geoff Ludlow, Bobby Downes and Travis Mann are seeking to "present their faith in Christ through film while ultimately awaking their audiences to the greater insight and truth of God."

According to co-founder Kevin Downes, "Our intention is to create films of rich cinematic value that refresh instead of parch humanity, and to be at the forefront of bringing Christian films into a new era."

Signal Hill Pictures has chosen to usher in this new era with the upcoming release of Mercy Streets, an urban drama telling the story of two brothers separated by guilt and anger, reunited by love and faith. Mercy Streets is currently in post-production and scheduled to open in cities nationwide, October 31.
